YouTube is your best friend when it comes to learning about pool. Whether you’re looking to watch a few matches or find some instructional material, you can always find what you need. For instructional videos, it’s tough to find anything recent, but it doesn’t matter too much since most information hasn’t changed in the past 30 years. Aside from changes in equipment pool is the same game today as it was yesterday. So if you’re looking to learn more about pool here are a few instructional videos from the greats of pool that all have a few tips that can help your game.

Tor Lowry – Pool Secrets Revealed

This is a more modern pool video that’s definitely worth watching if you’re starting out watching pool. Lowry has a great way of explaining concepts to make them easy to understand and his modern video equipment and effects make watching his video more understandable.This video is free on YouTube but he has a more comprehensive version on kicking and patterns on his own website that you have to pay for.

Dr. Dave & Bob Jewett

Of course, I can’t forget to mention Dr. Dave & Bob Jewett. These two people are a staple in the pool education culture. Dr. Dave is a physics professor who uses a highly analytical approach to teaching pool. He has tons and tons of video content that can help you learn more about the basics of playing pool. A word of warning though. The information is fantastic but the videos are a little dry. Regardless he definitely has some information that’s worth checking out, and no matter how much I’ve improved over the years, it’s a site I continually go back to for in depth information about pool.

Byrnes Standard Video of Pool

A powerhouse of great pool information. Robert Bynres was one of the best pool instructors of a generation. He’s written several books about pool and has made a few instructional videos about the game as well. Here’s one of them that’s definitely worth a watch.

Earl Strickland Pool My Way

Probably the best 9 ball player to ever pick up a cue Earl Stricklands knowledge and love for the game is unparalleled. A long time ago he put together this instructional video that gives you a peek into how he sees the game. He goes over the basics of pool and covers a few trickshots as well. Watch out though, he has a way of making this game look ridiculously easy even though there’s thousands of hours of practice behind his game.

Buddy Hall Instructional Clips

This last one isn’t exactly an instructional DVD, but years ago, hall of famer buddy hall was sponsored by Chalk Off, a pool table cleaner, to do instructional clips in between breaks for pool matches. This video is an assortment of tips ranging from how to break to more advanced position play. Most of this information is hard to find in other locations and the short nature in which most of these clips were filmed keeps this video interesting so its certainly worth a look.
