Position

The most important part of pool is making the ball your shooting. The second most important part of pool is making the next ball you need to shoot. This is where position and cue ball placement come into play. Using speed control and spin, players should be planning how to get to their next shot while shooting their current shot.

Good position is often about execution, but it’s also about good decision making. By choosing the right cue ball paths and patterns you can make it much easier to get the cue ball in a good position for the next shot with far less difficulty. The better you get at position play, the easier the game gets. This is why when the pros play, every shot looks like an easy shot while an amateur may have to make half a dozen really hard shots before they can run a rack.
