Spin

Spin is what makes pool fun. The friction between the cue ball and the table is what allows players to move the cue ball around the table at will. Spinning the cue ball is precisely what allows professional players to break a rack and sink all the balls without missing.

Spinning the cue ball makes it move in different directions which helps set yourself up for easier shots as the game goes along. The better you get as a player the more spin you’ll be able to use and be comfortable using.

While spin is what enables brilliant play, it’s also the most challenging part of the game to master and takes hundreds of hours of trial and error. If you know some of the subtleties and hang-ups of spin before-hand though, you can shrink that practice time to reach higher skill levels dramatically.
